Sixth Sense Cafe
When you eat out all the time, restaurants can get a little boring. The most important criteria for choosing a place to eat tend to be speed, price, and an easy menu. It’s very rare that you get an interesting take on your one of your favorite dishes that that turns eating from a chore into a pleasure. It’s even more rare for this experience to happen at less than 3,000 THB a meal. So, when I tell you that Sixth Sense Cafe does this, it is something special.
Every meal I’ve ordered there has had some unique twist on the food preparation or presentation. It makes ordering every new dish there a surprise. To just give you an idea of the variations, one of my favorite dishes there is the som tam, fried chicken, sticky rice combination set. It’s not a large set, but a great size for lunch. It comes out beautifully presented, but the sticky rice, which is served universally throughout phuket in a plastic bag tucked into a little woven basket is instead wrapped in a banana leaf as it was in the olden days.
Another great trick they have, and one that I’ve taken a picture of, is that their iced-tea is served with ice-cubes made from the tea. This stops the tea from getting watered down as the ice melts, a problem with all the other teas served on the island. Sure, it’s not rocket science, but they’re neat little variations on dishes that you’ll have all over Phuket that makes them just a little bit better and lets you see the dish again in a whole new light.
You get all of this for very reasonable prices. They have set lunch menus that start at 80 Baht including the drink. Ordering a la carte, most dishes are under 150 Baht and drinks are very reasonable. The only let down is that they only serve wine by the bottle. If you’re in Phuket Town and looking for an interesting twist on delicious food, stop by Sixth Sense Cafe.
