D Phuket
Sometimes you try a new restaurant not based on the recommendation of a friend or even just because you’ve seen a whole bunch of people crowding the place night after night, but because your dad makes the mistake of picking up one of the many glossy magazines that litter the corners of malls, restaurants, and other touristy places here in Phuket.
One such place that we I recently tried was D Phuket. It got a nice write up on one of those glossy magazines with a nice picture of the salmon salad. This single picture and glowing review in pigeon English was enough to get me to drive up and down a busy Phuket Town road several times to locate the non-descript and poorly marked place.
Well, you can safely save yourself the time of finding it, although the map below is a far better guide than the one provided in the magazine. The salmon dish that brought me all the way to the place was covered in an overpowering sauce that reduced the salmon to an indistinguishable meat which might as well have been pork. I also had some waffles, which while adequate were overpriced and served with a tiny little fork and a normal sized knife—attention to detail is the hallmark of a great restaurant.
