Surin
Surin Beach is just North of Kamala and we’re finally starting to really talk about beautiful, paradisiacal, tropical beaches here.
Public land (an old soccer field) have kept the resorts from crowding their way directly against the beach, so there is still breathing room and easy access. A few Oceanside restaurants have grown up along with one or two blights like a tailor shop (who would get a suit on the beach?) and a few stalls selling the ubiquitous selection of counterfeit goods, but it is still much less crowded than most other beaches.
The natural beauty, comparatively unspoiled, has been noticed and beautiful, high-end villas and resorts are the norm for accommodation in this area.
The calmer waters during high season from November to April allow the sand to settle and the water becomes crystal clear. The rocks at the far ends of the beach are great spots for snorkeling and many small creatures like parrot fish, starfish, and anemones are easy to spot., although the coral reefs haven't fully recovered from the boxing day tsunami in 2004.
There are two headlands on either end of the beach: Laem Singh to the south and Laem Son to the north. The latter is home to Pansea Beach and a couple of super-high-end resorts, while the southern headland has the lovely Laem Singh beach which can only be reached by boat or on foot. You can walk to either from Surin in about 20 minutes if you want a bit more privacy or just a change.
